LOTTE Chemical received two WINNER awards at the 2024 iF International Design Awards (iF International Forum Design).
‘REMINISCENCE’, a mobility interior lighting solution applying eco-friendly non-stamp material and ‘SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY’, an automobile module console with easy disassembly and replacement of parts, received the awards. These two products that use bio plastics received the Winner awards in the Product Concepts category of the Professional Concept sector.
REMINISCENCE realized semi-transparency that was not possible in existing eco-friendly materials using PC/PET materials that applied Bio-PET. It is a material with outstanding scratch-resistance and is strong against exterior damage with little discoloration thanks to its excellent light-resistance, allowing it to maintain an exterior with clear colors for a long time. In addition, its semi-transparency was utilized to visualize the shape of a leaf and image of photosynthesis to realize a soft lighting effect for automobile interiors.
SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY is a modular console design for near-future mobility that can be changed according to user features unlike existing automobile consoles. Considering resource-circulation, the joints were assembled by combining patterns without using adhesives, making recyclable. The console made using bio-PE/PP mélange materials (antibacterial) and scratch-resistant transparent PC material can be used for mobility interior lighting housing.
LOTTE Chemical Advanced Materials CEO Lee Young Jun commented, “We can propose customized solutions needed by customers in all industrial sections by adding the unique design value of LOTTE Chemical in eco-friendly materials,” and added, “We will do our best to continuously secure special competitiveness of our materials.”
The iF Design Awards started in 1954 and it is known to be one of the world’s top three industrial design awards together with Germany’s Red Dot Design Award and the US IDEA (International Design Excellence Awards), and it comprehensively evaluates design, innovation, and functionality in a total of sectors including products, packaging, communication, and concept.
LOTTE Chemical was awarded a total of 25 times at the 3 top design awards such as the iF Design Awards and Red Dot Design Awards so far, thus providing evidence of its global material design capacities.
