LOTTE Chemical will work together with the city of Busan and public agencies to expand ESG management practice and resource circulation together with the community.

LOTTE Chemical announced on the afternoon of the 15 at Dong-gu, Busan with the attendance of LOTTE Chemical Vice Chairman Kim Gyo-hyun, Busan Mayor Park Heong Joon, Busan Dong-gu Office Head Kim Jin-hong, and Korea Labor Force Development Institute for the Aged Director Kim Mi-gon to announced the opening of the second ‘Neighborhood ESG Center’. The participants of this opening ceremony congratulated the opening of the second ESG Center and agreed to further cooperation for the construction of a waste plastic collection center in Busan.

The Neighborhood ESG Center is a resource circulation center that reuses waste plastics collected locally and returns it to local residents, and it opened the first one back in November of last year in Geumjeong-gu, Busan. The waste plastic separately discharged by local residents are collected and categorized by an elderly work force, and it is then clean and reused.

The first center collected about 12 tons of waste PET bottles from March of this year to now, and it created jobs for a total of 390 senior citizens in the community. Based on such achievements, Busan City plans to expand the ESG Center to all 16 of its districts.

In detail, LOTTE Chemical will provide support for purchasing equipment to collect, sort and turn waste plastics into resources, and support the production of upcycled products. In addition, it plans to provide support for the circulation process guide for commercialization, etc. as well as support for technology and infrastructure.

Aside from this, ▲Busan plans to provide PR for the project and administrative support, ▲Dong-gu of Busan will provide the space for manufacturing facilities of eco-friendly products for senior citizens, ▲the Korea Housing Finance Corporation will support the project costs, ▲Korea Housing & Urban Guarantee Corporation will expand installation of upcycled safety bars, and , ▲KOSPO will expand installation of upcycled electric and lighting apparatuses.

Meanwhile, LOTTE Chemical will hold the ‘LOOP FESTA’ for sharing the achievements over the past three years of ‘Project LOOP’, which is a campaign for building a plastic circulation economic system by improving the waste plastic collection culture and recycling for about a month from August 30 to September 28. Project LOOP participated in the waste and resource circulation exhibition held at KINTEX in Ilsan from August 30 to September 1, and on September 2 and 3, it held an event at the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan to share the importance of resource circulation with baseball fans. On September 8 and 9, it also participated in the Seoul City Climate Crisis Bazaar. On September 18, it plans to hold the final achievement sharing ceremony of the second Project LOOP social ventures, which finds and support social ventures involved in resource circulation.
