LOTTE Chemical announced that it plans to hold ‘LOOP FESTA’ for sharing the achievements over the past three years of ‘Project LOOP’, which is a campaign for building a plastic circulating economy system by improving the waste plastic collection culture and recycling.

Plans are to share achievements by focusing on relevant activities such as participating in waste/resource circulation industry exhibits, Giants LOOP DAY, Busan Neighborhood ESG Center Opening Ceremony, achievement sharing meetings for the second social venture invitation for about one month from August 30 to September 28, while also engaging in activities that assertively expand common ground with the region and citizens.

‘Project LOOP’ is a program organized to play a leading role for improving awareness on resource circulation and constructing a domestic circulating economy system, and since 2020, it has collected about 4 million waste PET bottles, 70,000 recycled product pieces, supported 8 social ventures, and trained about 7,2000 people in resource circulation education. First, the ‘Giants LOOP DAY’ was held at Sajik Stadium in Busan on September 3 (Sun) in which recycled windbreakers using waste PET bottles collected in Busan and LOTTE Chemical’s regenerated material (C-rpet), which were donated to youth baseball teams in the region. Furthermore, a space for exhibition and experience activities for resource circulation was set aside at the Sajik Stadium as part of efforts to improve awareness for citizens.

Joint activities with the local governments of Busan and Incheon for constructing and expanding waste PET systems are scheduled for mid-September, and plans are in place for a meeting to share the achievements of the second social venture groups and seminar for inviting the third social venture group.

LOTTE Chemical President & CEO Kim Gyo Hyun, who has been part of ‘Project LOOP’ since the very beginning, said, “LOTTE Chemical proclaimed its new corporate vision ‘Every Step for Green’ with the goal of sustainable growth, and based on this, we are accelerating ESG management for 2050 carbon neutrality as well as expanding eco-friendly future growth businesses,” while adding, “I would like to thank all of the stakeholders, community, and citizens for their support and interest in our pursuit for a new vision and sustainable future growth businesses.”

‘Project LOOP’ is a project for constructing a plastic circulation process, and it is the only campaign in Korea that collects waste plastic, supports relevant social ventures, and conducts upcycling commercialization. It has been evaluated to have established itself as activities that connect plastic recycling process and stakeholders, provide systems and educations, which are essential resources, etc. for systematically constructing sustainable plastic circulation loops.
