The LOTTE Group Chemical Unit (LOTTE Chemical, LOTTE Fine Chemical, LOTTE Aluminum, LOTTE MCC) announced that it held and completed the month-long ‘2023 Benefiting the World Week’, which was a campaign for resource circulation and ecological protection joined by subsidiaries and employees for the first time among the group companies starting on May 31.

This environmental campaign was part of the plastic recycling project of LOTTE Chemical, ‘Project LOOP’ and it was made up of two activities - resource circulation held jointly by the four chemical unit companies and ecological protection held individually by the companies at each business site.

The resource circulation activity titled ‘Making Resources New’ involved installing PET bottle collection machines at the Seoul business site of each company and providing instructions on how to use it so that employees can separately dispose of PET bottles and cups on their own. The collection machine was passed on in relay-form for the four companies. In this event, 427 employees participated and 2,229 PET bottles were collected. The collected resources were donated to the social venture company Kokkiri Gongjang, which works on resource circulation.

The ecology protection activity ‘Benefiting the Environment’ was composed of activities for employees to directly take part in environmental protection activities, and it was designed so that employees can participate in resolving local environmental issues. Employees participated in coastal cleaning, forest protection, and plogging activities near the business sites, and it offered an opportunity to once again remember the importance of environmental protection.

LOTTE Chemical engaged in coastal clean-up work at the Jungheung Pier near the Yeosu Plant of the Basic Materials and Advanced Materials Business, while LOTTE MCC conducted eco-plogging activities at the Ggotji Beach in Anmyeon-do near the Daesan Plant. LOTTE Fine Chemical held bamboo sprout protection activities at the Shimnidae Forest at Taehwagang National Garden near its Ulsan business site, and plogging activities at the Mogok Neighborhood Park near the Pyeongtaek Plant to finish the “2023 Benefiting the World Week” campaign.

LOTTE Chemical staff Jung Yoo Seok, who took part in this event, stated, “I feel proud that I was able to discharge wastes separately more assertively than I used to thanks to this campaign,” and added, “Everybody worked hard to be the top collector of these wastes, and the plastic containers neglected in the office was reduced significantly.”

In addition to this event, LOTTE Group Chemical Unit installed plastic collection machines at local schools by cooperating with local governments in Incheon in order to establish a proper recycling culture and expand plastic collection bases. It is also engaging in various group-wide social contribution activities such as holding firefighter culture concerts to contribute to the safety of the community.
