LOTTE Chemical Compound Products Receive UL ‘EDP (Environmental Product Declaration)’ Certification for the First Time in the World

LOTTE Chemical compound products acquired EDP (Environmental Product Declaration) certification from the global safety and environment certification institute, UL (Underwriter’s Laboratory) based in the US for the first time in the world.

LOTTE Chemical announced that as interest of customers around the world is rising on the environmental impact assessment results and eco-friendly certification of products due to global warming and environmental issues, and owing to the continuing increase of requests regarding carbon dioxide emissions according to the LCA (life cycle assessment) results for product manufacturing, it acquired this certification to respond assertively.

UL, which provides technological certification services related to safety, is the most prominent institute in the world, and it is said that without the Ul’s various certifications and approvals, it is difficult to even enter the materials market.

The GC-1214 compound product that received the certification is a representative material of the Advanced Materials Business that applies PCM PC (Post Consumer Material Polycarbonate), which is a raw material for recyclable plastic, and it reduces carbon dioxide emissions in the production process by 15% compared to general products, and has already been acknowledged for its outstanding flame-resistance, and it is currently being used widely for large household appliances, etc.

In particular, the GC-1214 compound product is a material commercially used for the signage TV rear cover of Samsung Electronics.

Advanced Materials Business President Young Joon Lee said, “We will work on developing optimized LCA tools that can be applied in both domestic and overseas plants for the Advanced Materials Business,” and added, “We will upgrade the global competitiveness of the advanced materials business through materials and solution development that meet customer needs.”
