LOTTE Chemical is expanding its development of eco-friendly plastic materials for mobility in collaboration with Hyundai Motor and Kia’ AVP Division and the Basic Materials Research Center.

On November 13, LOTTE Chemical participated in the Eco-Friendly Materials and Vehicle Exhibition held at Hyundai Motor’s Namyang R&D Center, where the company proposed the application of eco-friendly PMMA (Polymethyl Methacrylate) material for Kia’s EV3 concept car’s “Rear Lamp Lens” component.

Since 2022, LOTTE Chemical has been working with Hyundai Motor and Kia to supply various eco-friendly materials, such as eco-friendly PP/Talc (Polypropylene/Talc) and eco-friendly PC/ABS (Polycarbonate/Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), for automotive interior and exterior components. The newly introduced eco-friendly PMMA material employs a "depolymerization" method, where plastics are chemically broken down and re-synthesized, enabling the production of recycled plastics with quality comparable to virgin materials.

Additionally, LOTTE Chemical has collaborated with Hyundai/Kia and Seoyon E-Hwa to develop a high-content eco-friendly PC/PET (Polycarbonate/Polyethylene Terephthalate) material with a recycling rate of 70%, addressing the recently strengthened EU ELV (End-of-Life Vehicle Regulation). This material achieves over 65% carbon reduction compared to new plastics, offers superior properties, and provides a wide range of color flexibility, making it a strong candidate for use in interior components of future vehicle models.

A representative from LOTTE Chemical stated, “We will continue to develop and provide diverse eco-friendly solutions applicable to future mobility by leveraging our expertise and technological capabilities in specialty materials.”
